I know lots of people who love their Kindles. I'm a total bibliophile, but I don't think I"ll get a Kindle. I would miss being able to write all over the pages and it would bug me that the books could disappear into cyberspace whenever the Amazon folks made a mistake or decided to withdraw something. (This has already happened.) It would also bug me that if the Kindle was lost, stolen, or broken, I would have lost much more than just the device. If I carried around a whole library in one machine, then my library would be gone when the machine got too old to work correctly.
Although I'm not really a reader, I don't think I would give up books. I agree with you about the electronic book. Those are the same reasons I can't bring myself to buying another electronic PDA. Once my first one was lost or broken, I never had the urge to buy another one.
If I did buy a Kindle, I wouldn't buy one with the idea of "carrying around my personal library". A Kindle to me would just be a new toy that over time would probably lose its shine. I do like the idea of having my morning news downloaded into a mobile device that I could read on my commute to work.
