Go, East High!
Oh, sorry. Got carried away there. (I'm sure Max told you that both he and I graduated from East -- but when it was still the classy, old building.)
Well, in this slide show, I can definitely recognize everything.
The barn isn't part of Young's farm; it's just one of the ones on the museum property. And the BY farmhouse is only ONE of his homes. It was originally located outside of town (now not exactly the outskirts). It's the real house. It was moved in about 1976 or so -- the top half first (I remember how funny it looked to see the upper story sitting on the ground.).
Young's most famous homes are still in their original locations by Temple Square in downtown SLC. You probably saw them: the Beehive HOuse and the Lion House.
The man had 27 wives and (I think 54) children, so he needed a lot of room.
Looks like the valley had its usual summer haze for you. Sorry your view got obstructed by it, but I'm SURE New York has plenty of smog, so you couldn't have been too surprised.

Oh, the slide labeled "I forgot" is the City and County Building, where the mayor and other city officials have offices.
Hope that helps.
I don't expect you to remember everything; I just thought I'd help out.

Thanks for the background information. As soon as I finish here, I can go back and fix the missing information.

Yes, I did visit the other houses. From what I've seen, Mr. Young seemed to have had a very, very good life. He even had a school built just for his kids. Someone must have complained because the school was later available (evenings only) for community uses.

No surprises about the smog.

Nice set of pictures, they all look familiar though. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Salt Lake. If you ever get back out this way, let me know, there's a lot more to see down south.

Hello Max. Thanks for the compliment about the pictures. I will definitely be going back to LA. I was even thinking about traveling by Greyhound both ways --killing a few days I would just sleep away at home and make my vacation appear longer. I was also thinking about altering my route going or coming back to visit a couple of other out of state cities(Chicago and Boston are on my short list). It shouldn't be difficult to stop by SLC on the way back.
